School-based programs
SWC has a Prevention Education Specialist available to give presentations
in the classroom to middle and high school students on the topics of healthy
relationships, dating violence, sexual assault, and sexual harassment.
These presentations are based on a curriculum called R.E.S.P.E.C.T. (Responsible
Education for Self-Protection Establishing Confidence and Trust) developed
by the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services. This
curriculum has been approved by the Berkeley and Jefferson County Boards
of Education. Approval from the Morgan County Board of Education is pending.
If you would like more information on this curriculum, or would like to
schedule a presentation, please call Christina Freels at 263-8522.
Professional Trainings
SWC sponsors several professional trainings every year. Once a year, SWC
brings in national speakers to address current issues in the areas of
domestic violence and sexual assault. Past speakers have included retired
Sgt. Mark Wynn, Naomi Griffith, and Sara Buel.
Additionally, SWC may be able to provide your professional organization
with training on the following issues:
- domestic violence in the workplace
- establishing a workplace domestic violence policy
- responding to or working with victims of domestic violence or sexual
assault
- working with other agencies to improve the community response to domestic
violence or sexual assault
If you would like to schedule training for your organization’s
staff, or would like more information about upcoming trainings, please
call SWC at 263-8592.
Community Presentations
SWC staff are available to give presentations to adult or youth community
groups on the issues of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, and on
the services offered by SWC. Presentations can be specifically tailored
to the audience needs and goals of the group. If requested, participants
will also be provided with materials and brochures from SWC.
If you would like to schedule a presentation, please call Mindy Tramonti
at 263-8522, Monday – Friday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Please call
at least two weeks in advance of your requested date.
